Richard Osman's best-selling mystery book is being turned into a Hollywood celebrity-studded movie.

The former Pointless host reached number one on the bestseller list last year with his fourth crime novel, while his 2020 book gets the silver screen treatment.

The Thursday Murder Club will be run by Harry Potter, Mrs Doubtfire and Home Alone icon Chris Columbus.

Not only is the director legendary, but so is the cast, as Dame Helen Mirren, Sir Ben Kingsley, and James Bond himself, Pierce Brosnan, are all attached to the film.

Richard, 53, confirmed the news on his podcast The Rest is Entertainment, as he revealed that Amblin Entertainment – Steven Spielberg's production company – is doing it.

The plot follows four friends living in a care home in Kent as they team up to solve murders for fun, only to be drawn into a real case.

The final four, Joyce, has not yet been announced, but given the names already revealed, it is likely to be an impressive addition.

Teasing the announcement, Richard wrote on

“Official announcements coming soon and I can't wait to share them with everyone.”

Richard, whose brother is Suede's Mat Osman, is best known for his stints on TV, including hosting House of Games.
