Carbondale, Ill. – Southern Illinois defeated Indiana State 8-0 (5) in regulation to open the series on Friday afternoon. Freshman Catherine Johnson he entered the game in the top of the fourth inning, retiring as the designated player, and sparked a six-run run with the first home run.

The home run by freshman Johnson was the first of her collegiate career. Johnson finished the inning by hitting a pair of runs with a sacrifice fly before the frame ended.

SIU wasted no time in getting on board as Elżbieta Warwicka AND Jackie Fox he struck back-to-back to open the match, and Lis scored against Warwick on his second shot of the match. Warwick now has 49 career doubles, tying the program record held by Shaye Harre (2014-2017).

Maddie Groff he started for the Salukis and went three innings, striking out five without allowing any base runners. Madi Eberle she entered the final two rounds to complete the shutout, scoring a pair. The break marks the Salukis' sixth appearance against the MVC after a pair against Belmont last weekend.

Jackie Fox she hit a home run for her fourth straight game and now has 15 on the season to lead the MVC. Fox's home run came on the first pitch she saw in the third inning, which was her second RBI of the night.

The Salukis will look to secure the series over the Sycamores on Saturday, with kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m. ET.
