Carbondale, Ill. – Southern Illinois defeated Indiana State 12-1 (5) on Saturday in the second game of the weekend series in Terre Haute. The Salukis used seven runs in the fourth inning, including three home runs in overtime, to earn their second straight victory by a run.

Maddie Groff started in the circle for Saluki, having gone four innings earlier Madi Eberle he took over in the fifth. Groff threw four scoreless innings with five strikeouts, just two hits and a walk, improving her record to 25-3 on the year.

SIU scored its first run of the day on Sycamore's error on a dropped fly ball and had two outs in the third. Jackie Fox he managed to get home on time and give the Dawgs their first lead of the day.

Coming back to the fourth frame, Elżbieta Warwicka she blasted a shot to center field for the third time this season at home, scoring three runs for a 4-0 lead with still no outs in the inning. Ryla Hamilton after which he previously hit three home runs Catherine Johnson she hit her second home run of the weekend and second of her freshman season.

Johnson has hit a two-RBI home run in each of the last two games and now has 11 RBIs on the year.

Jackie Fox she struck out four walks in four at-bats, setting the single-game program record for walks allowed in a game, last achieved by Kyleigh Decker in 2019 against Missouri State. Fox saw just one hit in 17 pitches.

The Salukis added four more runs in the fifth on four walks, a hit by pitch and one out Haley Wilkerson extend the lead to 12-0 in the first fifth quarter.

Indiana State was able to pull ahead for the first time of the weekend in the bottom of the fifth with a sacrifice fly. However, Eberle struck out the next batter and left the runner stranded to end the game.

The Salukis will go for inspection tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. Polish time.
