MANILA, Philippines – MJ Phillips emerged victorious in her return to the Premier Volleyball League, helping the Angels to their latest victory in the All-Filipino Conference at the Philsports Arena on Saturday.

The Korean V-League middle blocker recorded 11 points built on nine successful attacks, a block and an ace to give Petro Gazz a 9-2 record in her return from playing with the Gwangju AI Peppers in Korea.

“This game was very important for me because I just needed a test to see how I work with the team, the system and everything. I was a little shaky, but we’ll get there with more practice,” Phillips said.

Now that the Angels have their sights set on the semifinals, Phillips said he aims to help Petro Gazz perform better than they did in the round robin.

“I say give it your all, put pressure on them from the start and let’s not wait for them to make mistakes and stuff. We really have to attack them.”

Helping Phillips in the Petro Gazz attack were Brooke Van Sickle and Jonah Sabete, who scored 26 and 12 respectively.
