Priyanka Chopra made India proud by winning the title of 'Miss World' in the year 2000. Post that she has come a long way – from Hindi films to Hollywood. Although, this miss World The victory was quite unexpected for her and she never dreamed of it. Priyanka feels like it was destiny for her. In a recent podcast conversation, Priyanka opened up about her journey and revealed that she had newspaper clippings of Sushmita Sen and Aishwarya Rai in her room growing up.
She said in a chat with the Read The Room podcast with Cavanaugh James: “I remember 1993 or 1994, Miss World and miss Universe, Aishwarya Rai and Sushmita Sen, were both from India that year. And I had little excerpts from the newspapers like a little collage in my room (of Aishwarya and Sushmita). But it wasn't like I wanted to be her. It was like 'Wow, look at these young women doing so well on a global scale.' So I was always curious about it, but I never wanted to pursue it.”
However, fate had its own way of bringing PC where she is. “When I was thrown into this, I really believed that I was destiny's child in some way, and I really enjoy that and don't fight it,” said the actress.
Priyanka also recalled the time when the Miss World pageant was so popular in India. “In my country, beauty pageants are really revered; they were really admired, especially the Miss India pageant and the Miss World pageant. There was a decade in a row of winners in my country, and it's a little different. I felt like in America pageants have a bad rap (reputation), and we didn't have that growing up. So yes, I was interested when India participated, our family would watch the pageant and it was a lot of fun.
The actress is currently filming 'Heads of State' with France, where her daughter Malti Marie also accompanied her.
