Poyos was inspired by the crowd, but doesn't expect to receive the season's most important individual award, as all she wants is to help win UST's first championship in 13 years.

“There is no expectation that I will receive the award, perhaps it is just a bonus, just in case. The only important thing for me is the championship and that's really our main goal this season,” she said after dropping 22 points built on 18 shots, three blocks and an ace.

Poyos thanked UST fans, including celebrity Vice Ganda and former Tigresses Sisi Rondina, EJ and Eya Laure and Alina Bicar, for giving them a much-needed boost in their crucial game.

Poyos made a strong case for Season 86 MVP and Rookie of the Year after emerging as the second leading scorer with 290 points, just one point behind Eastern University star Casiey Dongallo.

For Poyos, his excellent first-year performance is a product of the hard work of the entire UST team.

“It’s a lot of fun because we got the lead twice to win and everyone really worked and we all worked hard. Our heart and courage prevailed today and we achieved victory,” she said.

UST tries not to squander its twice-beaten advantage when it looks to dethrone La Salle in the Final Four next week and end a five-year Finals drought.
