MANILA, Philippines – Mylene Paat will miss a few games in the 2024 PVL All-Filipino Conference semifinals as she takes a tryout in South Korea from April 29 to May 1.

Paat will attempt to earn a place in the 2024 Korean V-League Women's Asian Quota Draft for the second time, but her presence will be missed by Chery Tiggo, who will play in the PVL semi-finals with Choco Mucho, Creamline and Petro Gazz in another round-robin on April 30th, May 2nd and 4th.

The veteran opposite forward is tempering her expectations on Jeju Island but will make the most of the experience.

“When I auditioned in Korea, I didn’t expect to be accepted. It’s part of my exposure, experience,” Paat said after scoring nine points in a 26-24, 23-25, 19-25, 25-12, 15-9 victory over Galeries on Thursday at the Philsports Arena. “I am very grateful to coach KungFu (Reyes) and our management Chery, they fully support my test.”

The star of the Philippines women's national volleyball team is confident that her teammates can continue their seven-game winning streak in the semifinals without her.

“I will miss some people here in the semi-finals, but I am sure my other teammates are ready if they get in,” said Paat, who was not called up last year.

“Knowing that Aby (Maraño) and Ara (Galang) will be with us when we enter the semifinals, even though we are just two people. The great help of our team in the survey. Back to zero in the semi-finals, perhaps one step at a time and one game at a time. We still continue to study our system.”

Paat, along with Creamline star Tots Carlos and Petro Gazz's MJ Phillips, who was the fifth overall pick of the Gwangju AI Peppers, will be among the 36 candidates in the tryouts.

Chery Tiggo coach KungFu Reyes is ready to make adjustments with his wingers Eya and EJ Laure, Ara Galang Cess Robles and Shaya Adorador as they will play without Paat.

“We have a game of adjustments. We have a lot of wing attackers. All of this is trainable, adjustable. As long as someone is there. Don't panic,” Reyes said.

“Of course Mylene Paat, we can't replace her, it's Mylene Paat, but the position itself is the important thing, how to move up and how to prepare as a player. We're ready for the coaching part. All we have to do is execute each workout, adjustment after adjustment.”
