Actor-director Mahesh Manjrekar should make a film in Hindi, titled 'Purana Furniture' with Naseeruddin Shah. However, it was shelved and the filmmaker decided to make the film in Marathi with the title 'Juna Furniture'. Majrekar decided to essay the role himself in the Marathi version of the film, which was originally supposed to be played by Naseeruddin in Hindi. In an exclusive chat with ETimes, Mahesh revealed why the Hindi version with Naseeruddin couldn't be made.
The 'Vaastav' director revealed to ETimes, “I spent considerable time developing the script for 'Purana Furniture'. Once the script was completed, we pitched it to Naseeruddin Shah, who had a lead role in the film. Shah read the script and was very impressed with it. However, due to limited funding, we were unable to proceed with the project.
He further added, “So we decided that we would release it in Marathi language as 'Juna Furniture'. I am playing a lead role in the film along with my wife Medha Manjrekar. The film revolves around a devoted father who fights to bring justice to his wife, highlighting the plight of the neglected elderly parents in a society consumed by materialism.”
Apart from Mahesh and his wife Medha, 'Juna Furniture' also stars Anusha Dandekar, Upendra Limaye, Shivaji Satam, Sachin Khedekar and Sameer Dharmadhikari in pivotal roles.
