Harvey Weinstein was hospitalized in New York City.
The disgraced 72-year-old film producer has “a number of health problems”, his lawyer said.
Arthur Aidala, Weinstein's lawyer, confirmed that his client was taken to Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan after doctors from Rikers Island examined him.
Weinstein was taken to Rikers Island — a 413-acre prison island in the East River in the Bronx — from an upstate prison under the appeal ruling two days ago in which his 2020 rape conviction was overturned.
Doctors sent him to Bellevue for further tests, with Aidala describing Weinstein's health as “a train wreck,” to TMZ.
Aidala confirmed that she spoke with Weinstein after his release from an upstate prison.
He said he is “in good spirits” and “happy with his medical care.”
No further information regarding his current condition has been released.
However, his health issues are well documented, as he is reportedly dealing with heart problems, diabetes, sleep apnea, and eye problems.
Weinstein is also believed to have other illnesses, with his representative, Juda Engelmayer, previously calling his 16-year prison sentence imposed by a Los Angeles judge “cruel” due to his age and health.
Weinstein remains in prison despite the overturning of his conviction this week, as the decision did not affect his sentence in Los Angeles.
The New York City district attorney's office said it will retry him.
A spokesperson for the New York City Department of Correction confirmed to Associated press that Weinstein remains in custody in Bellevue.
