Chris Pratt suffered a serious injury after less than a week on the set of his new film.

The 44-year-old actor, who will voice the titular character in The Garfield Movie next month as well as star in Netflix's The Electric State this year, is currently hard at work filming the upcoming Mercy project.

He will play a detective trying to prove his innocence after being accused of a violent crime in the sci-fi thriller, which also stars Rebecca Ferguson, and doesn't quite go according to plan.

Chris shared some photos showing his painful injury, with one photo showing swelling in his ankle, while another showed him with his leg elevated in the dressing room.

He wrote: 'Mercy filming on the 4th. I have a great stunt team! And sometimes I try to get in there and do some of my own things. Today, Dad caught a metal pole in his ankle.

'It should be interesting moving forward. 🧐'

It's unknown whether the injury will affect production plans or whether filming will be able to continue as scheduled, but everyone involved is hoping Chris recovers quickly.

The intense project comes from a script by Marco Van Belle with Timur Bekmambetov at the helm and is set in a world where crime has skyrocketed.

Chris and Rebecca join an all-star cast including Annabelle Wallis, Kali Reis, Kylie Rogers, Kenneth Choi, Chris Sullivan and Rafi Gavron.

His character's name has yet to be revealed, but there was a potential clue as he was recently spotted filming scenes where he arrested another character.

The name 'Raven' was stitched into her uniform, which could offer a hint of her nickname or codename.

He will reunite with Bekmambetov for the first time since he played a small role in the 2008 film Wanted, which hit the big screen just a year before his role as Andy Dwyer on Parks and Recreation.
