More power in Star
SilverStar Mountain Resort is opening more terrain and activities.
With cooler temperatures and snow for the mountain's opening weekend, the Comet Chair opened on Tuesday and the Alpine Meadows Chair will open on Friday. Brewer's Pond, Tube Town, Night Skiing and XC Night Loop will be open over the weekend.
“Mother Nature provided the snow we needed to open more lifts and grounds and we are so excited to have these iconic activities and more grounds open for all of our guests to enjoy,” said Ian Jenkins, director of sales, marketing and events.
“To date, this makes the resort have five lifts and 30 open slopes for incredible skiing and riding.”
Skating and tubing are now available. Brewer's Pond and Tube Town will be open Monday through Thursday from 3pm to 8pm and Friday through Sunday from noon to 8pm.
The Alpine Meadows Chair will be open on Friday for access to Attridge's limited terrain.
Night skiing will begin at Silver Queen and The Discovery Carpet on Fridays and Saturdays from 3:30 pm to 8:30 pm. The gondola will not be operating for night skiing this weekend.
The XC Night Loop will also be open today until 7:30 pm daily.
Tube Town Carpet will return to tubing maintenance only with the Silver Queen Chair open for access to Bannister Terrain Park and Silver Queen Run.
The annual Christmas Light Up event on opening weekend raised more than $5,000 for the Good Food Box – School Food Box program.
Good Food Box is a non-profit organization that supports families, seniors and individuals accessing groceries and products during difficult times.
The money raised at Light Up alone means that SilverStar is more than 50% of the way towards its goal of raising $10,000.
All donations raised by the community will be matched by the SilverStar Play Forever Fund and an anonymous donor from the Community Foundation of the North Okanagan, tripling your contribution.
