Ivan Omhonria, a two-year-old boy who was killed by agents of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency in Delta State, has been buried.

reports that the two-year-old child was killed by a stray bullet fired by NDLEA operatives during an operation in the Okpanam area of Asaba on July 13, 2023.

Ivan and his brother, Eromonsele, who was also hit by a bullet in the eye but survived, had just returned from school and went to their mother's store when the incident happened.

Speaking to our correspondent on Wednesday in Asaba, the father of the deceased, Mr. Fidelis Omhonria, said the family was going through a difficult time, especially because of the condition of the surviving brother.

He said: “We have just finished the funeral at St Vienna’s Catholic Church, DBS Road. He was buried in the cemetery. He went to his creator. Our concern now is how to treat the child (sibling).

“NDLEA from operational headquarters and others were present at the cemetery and are helping us expedite his (brother’s) visa to the United States for further treatment.

“The Delta State Government has written to the US embassy to expedite the process so that the boy can receive treatment.

“Only God can console us at this time. Let God take control and take care of our other son who has eye problems. He is now 1 year and a few months old.”

He appealed to Nigerians to continue to pray for the family, especially during this difficult time, for the boy with eye injury to get better.”
