O Rough gems Co-Director Will Direct First Sandman Comedy Project Since 2018 100% Fresh
Adam Sandler will meet with Rough gems co-director Josh Safdie for a new comedy special airing on Netflix.
Unfortunately, at the moment, there are no further details — such as title, production schedule or even release date — beyond everything contained in the aforementioned sentence. As such, we will all have to sit here, cooking like Kevin Garnett after looking at the mysterious black opal for the first time: “Why the hell would you show me something if I couldn’t have it?!”
Sandler spent much of last year on the road with a stand-up tour, during which he reportedly performed a lot of new material (at least according to a review from a stop in Milwaukee). He also just performed a little show at the Dynasty Typewriter location in Los Angeles earlier this month.
After the launch and success of Rough gemsSandler worked with Safdie and his brother, Benny, on a short film, Goldman vs. Silverman, about a turf war between two street artists. The Safdies were also expected to direct Sandler in a new film centered on the world of sports cards and memorabilia (also starring Megan Thee Stallion and Ben Affleck), but the project's current status is unclear: Benny has finally left, and while Josh was scheduled to take on the role of director, said Benny Variety last year that the film is “on pause”.
As for Sandler, the untitled special with Safdie will mark his first stand-up project since 2018 Adam Sandler: 100% fresh. He has been characteristically busy with various projects since then, starring in three films alone last year, including Murder Mystery 2 with Jennifer Aniston, You're not invited to my Bat Mitzvah (which featured the entire Sandler family) and the animated film Lion. As it stands now, its only project on the agenda for 2024 is Astronauta sci-fi film coming to Netflix on March 1st.
