It's been quite a year in the world of movies, TV shows and games, and Google has now revealed exactly which ones came out on top in terms of its annual 2023 UK list.

It's no news that two huge The summer movies that got everyone talking have hit the top spots in terms of things people have been looking for in terms of movies this year – Barbie and Oppenheimer, but the order of their popularity may come as a surprise to some.

When it came to UK TV, a British crime drama series returning for its final outing took the top spot.

The program that topped the US and world charts appeared in large numbers, just before a popular Amazon Prime Video thriller.

In the gaming world, fans are obsessed with one release in particular, with a game that ended up being turned into a very successful TV show coming in second place.

Oppenheimer dominated Google searches in the UK after hitting cinemas on the same date (21 July) as Barbie, resulting in the Barbenheimer briefcase circulating online.

Although Barbie was at the top of the US and global lists in terms of Google searches and Oppenheimer followed in second place, in the UK the opposite was true and, apparently, more people were looking for the film about American scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer and its role. in the development of the atomic bomb.

Oppenheimer is still heading towards the $1 billion mark at the global box office, while Barbie reached that number months ago.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Everything Everywhere All at Once and 2022 film The Menu rounded out the top five according to UK data.

Killers of the Flower Moon, John Wick 4, Cocaine Bear, Bank of Dave and Creed 3 made up the rest of the top 10.

Most Popular TV Shows of 2023

BBC's Happy Valley – starring Sarah Lancashire, James Norton and more – returned this year with its third and final season, and clearly UK fans were very excited, judging by Google's trending list.

HBO's The Last of Us came in second place, while Amazon Prime Video's The Rig, Netflix's Ginny and Georgia and Netflix's Top Boy rounded out the top five.

The Long Shadow, The Sixth Commandment, Daisy Jones and the Six, Luther and Black Mirror made up the rest of the list of top 10 UK TV shows.

The world is still obsessed with Harry Potter, with the Wizarding World game Hogwarts Legacy – set a century before the events of the beloved novels – leading the way Google global trends list for 2023.

The Last of Us game was the second most popular according to the annual global analysis list, with word game Connections, battle royale game Battlegrounds Mobile India and action role-playing game Starfield rounding out the top five.

Role-playing video game Baldur's Gate 3, Japanese puzzle video game スイカゲーム (Suika Game, also known as Watermelon Game), online-only action role-playing game Diablo IV, shooter game Atomic Heart, and the upcoming survival video game Sons of Floresta made up the rest of the top 10.
