If you're a fan of entertainment, your taste buds have probably wondered a time or two while watching a favorite movie or TV show rerun.

The on-camera display of specific food and drink items leaves the audience wondering whether the syrupy spaghetti from “Elf” is just fantasy at the North Pole or whether the pizza shown in “Eat, Pray, Love” really was delicious enough to fall passionate.

The “holiday” roast turkey first featured in the 1966 animated version of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” may not have guaranteed audience salivation. However, the “roasted beast” introduced to Jim Carrey in the 2000 live-action adaptation has turned some heads over the decades.

Although the audience may interpret the “roast beast” narration as roast beef, the Grinch is actually given a roast turkey to carve.

Plus, the turkey is topped with pineapple slices, maraschino cherries and peppercorns, which is a strange combination — almost as peculiar as Rachel Green's inedible meat and English pea trifle from “Friends.”

Roast beef recipe

Ingredients for roast beef recipe

  • 2–3 pounds round or round roast beef
  • 2 teaspoons Montreal steak seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon chopped fresh rosemary
  • 1 teaspoon chopped fresh thyme
  • 2-4 fresh garlic cloves
  • Oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste

“Roast beef is usually a top round or eye round [beef],” said Dante Boccuzzi, chef and owner of several restaurants in Cleveland. “I usually serve prime rib at my parties.”

Boccuzzi likes ribs because if you overcook it a little, the meat doesn't dry out.

However, he recommends some garlic, olive oil, Montreal steak seasoning, chopped thyme, and rosemary for a typical roast beef recipe.

Once the meat is rubbed all over with olive oil and dry ingredients, cook it in the oven at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for 15 minutes per pound. This means that if you have a three-pound roast beef, you will need to cook it for 45 minutes to achieve medium-rare doneness.

“Cook to 125 degrees on center,” Boccuzzi said. If you prefer even more cooked red meat, bake until it reaches 135-145 degrees in the center.

As for the veggies and starch, you can't go wrong with fresh bread to mop up the excess juices on your plate. Additionally, colorful carrots, red-skinned potatoes and sliced onions can be roasted together with the meat in the oven.

Boccuzzi recommends a steak or béarnaise sauce to accompany the meat.

And don't forget what you'll do with the leftovers.

“I like an au jus sandwich,” Boccuzzi said of his leftover meat. “Where meat is reheated in its juices.”

Additionally, Boccuzzi recommends a Cabernet or Amazon wine to accompany the beef meal.

Coat the turkey in the mixture inside and outside the meat. Soaping inside and out will ensure the entire turkey is juicy.

Then add the sage leaves, rosemary, thyme, salt and pepper to the outside of the turkey. These seasonings and herbs will crisp up with the skin of the turkey. Stuff the turkey with lemon slices from half a lemon and whole garlic cloves. Lastly, close the turkey with half a lemon at the base before tying the legs.

And since this is a Grinch-inspired recipe, cooks should cover the turkey with something round and yellow.
