Corinthians are very close to repatriating defender Robert Renan. The 20-year-old defender, who belongs to Russian Zenit, is to be loaned to Timão for one season, until the end of 2024.

Terrão's son, the defender, went missing at the end of his first stay at the club. He started gaining opportunities in 2022, still under Vítor Pereira, but was sold earlier this year as part of a move to permanently acquire striker Yuri Alberto.

He played only 13 matches in a Corinthians shirt and made one assist. He became the team's starter in the final phase of last season, after losing the Copa do Brasil title to Flamengo.

Despite his young age, Robert Renan stands out for his maturity and quality of play with the ball at his feet. Last year his passing efficiency was over 80%. To this must be added 35 cuts, 11 interceptions and eight tackles in the Brazilian Championship in 2022.

In Europe, the results were not the same. With a contract valid until 2028, the defender could not stabilize and played only 17 times for Zenit. He played his last match for the team on August 13.

That's why the Russian club started listening to offers for the defender. The player has a contract with West Ham in England and is expected to make a permanent move to the London side after his loan spell at Corinthians.

Robert Renan's return comes at a good time for Timão. After the departure of Gil and Bruno Méndez, Mano Menezes' coaching staff had only two defenders: Lucas Veríssimo and Caetano. Young Raul Gustavo, who was on loan at Bahia, will also return for 2024.
