EXCLUSIVE: A wild pre-holiday auction of a Ryan Reynolds global heist comedy vehicle is coming to an end, with Netflix winning the deal. Deadline revealed the untitled pitch last week as creatives made the rounds to pitch directly — something that hasn't happened much since the pandemic — and 7-figure bids started coming to the table. Dana Fox will write the script and Simon Kinberg will produce with Reynolds.

The pitch doesn't have a title, but I hear it has some great roles for an ensemble in the spirit of Oceans Eleven. It also takes place on the international stage.

There were eight buyers in the mix, and that number dropped to five and finally four before Netflix prevailed. Sources said Fox will be paid around 7 figures to write it and the production deals are in the 7 figures. Reynolds and his Maximum Effort banner, and Kinberg and Audrey Chon are producing through their Genre Films banner. Fox is also producing. His credits include Cruella It is The lost cityand the TV series Home before dark It is Ben and Kate.

The proposal arose from the relationship that Reynolds and Kinberg developed at the Dead Pool films they are producing. They are finishing the third one now after a strike break. Reynolds recently worked with Netflix on The Adam Projectand before that in Red Warning. This is one of two projects Reynolds has on the market, as he plans to work with Channing Tatum on Calamity Unrest. This one hasn't landed yet.
