Russell Brand’s management told him it ‘wasn’t a good look’ to date a 16-year-old girl and ‘told him to pretend she was his goddaughter or niece’, alleged accuser ‘Alice’ claims
A woman who claimed she was groomed by Russell Brand when she was 16 said the star’s management told him it ‘wasn’t a good look’ to date a 16-year-old girl – advising him to pretend she was his goddaughter or niece.
The woman – referred to as Alice to protect her identity – made claims she was in an ’emotionally abusive’ relationship with Brand, then 31 – adding that she ‘can’t imagine’ finding a teenager ‘sexually attractive’ now she is in her thirties.
Alice said she met Brand, then well known as a BBC radio presenter and host of Channel 4’s Big Brother’s Big Mouth, in 2006 on a shopping trip to London’s Leicester Square.
Speaking on BBC Sounds today, Alice said: ‘He knew [my age] before we ever went on our first date.
‘He told me that his management had told him not to be seen out and about [with me]. They said it wasn’t a good look for him and his career.

‘There were some discussions – ”maybe we can say she’s you goddaughter”.
‘ ”You can’t say she’s a niece because people know you’re an only child.” There were those kind of discussions, and then it was, ”well, why don’t you just stay inside”, and then we only met within inside the four walls of his room.’
Speaking for the first time since the accusations were made against Brand, Alice said she ‘can’t imagine’ being sexually attracted to a 16-year-old now she is an adult.
‘Now that I’m in my 30s, looking at 16-year-olds, I can’t even imagine finding them sexually attractive. I can’t imagine even thinking of them as that, you know, a potential mate in any way,’ she said.
‘It just seems the only feelings I have towards them are maternal, protective feelings – I couldn’t even imagine. You just don’t even put them into that category in your head.’
She added: ‘As I became an older woman – and started reaching the same age as him – that’s when I really started to feel angry.
‘You’re allowed to make mistakes as a teenager – they should be with people you own age.’

Speaking about how the relationship affected her long-term, Alice said: ‘It’s certainly had an impact on my relationships going forward.
‘I felt used up, I felt cheap, I felt dirtied by the whole thing, and so then I went on to have another series of relationships with people that were, for want of a better word, sleazy.’
Brand became increasingly controlling and sexually abusive as their relationship went on, Alice has alleged.
At one point he sent a taxi to collect her from school and Alice recalls the driver recognising the destination and begging her not to go in, saying to her he had a daughter the same age ‘and I would want someone to do this for her’.
The driver offered to take her home instead, for no charge, but she insisted she was fine. She recalled: ‘He had such a sad look in his eyes.’
Alice’s mother also expressed a deep concern for the relationship, with Alice claiming she followed ‘all those motherly impulses’.
‘She took my phone away, she grounded me, she would try to keep my confined to the house. But I’m 16-years-old, so she can’t do that indefinitely,’ she said.
Their relationship ended after she found another woman in his bed.
