The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has revealed that he will petition the Nigerian Judicial Council (NJC) to sanction Justice MW Danagogo for granting an ex-parte motion, barring the state House of Assembly faction chairman, Martin Amaewhule, from access to State Assembly facilities.

Naija News had earlier reported that a High Court in Port Harcourt confirmed Edison Ehie as the authentic Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

In its ruling on Tuesday, the court barred Amaewhule and Dumle Maol – allies of former Rivers governor, Nyesom Wike, from parading themselves or interfering in the activities of Edison Ogerenye Ehie as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

However, reacting to the decision, the acting Chairman of APC in Rivers State, Tony Okocha, said the party would not comply with the court order.

Okocha revealed that the party would write to the Nigerian Judicial Council to sanction Justice Danagogo for granting the ex-parte order.

The party's interim president said: “We wish to intimate Nigerians on the resurgence of the judgment obtained in Rivers State. Today, the people of Rivers State woke up to hear that a Justice Danagogo of the Rivers State High Court granted an ex-parte order to one Edision Ehie with impunity, recognizing him as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly .

“Recall that the same Edision approached a Federal High Court in Rivers State seeking to be declared Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly in the case (and) argument was made and judgment was reserved for January 2024.

“Surprisingly, today, on the same matter, Judge Danagogo granted an expert order purporting to recognize this Edision as President of the State Assembly. This is a redolent abuse of judicial processes. It is an aberration for the Judiciary to interfere in the legislative process. For us, that doesn’t exist.”

Okocha, however, said that the party will be “There is no option left but to petition Justice Danagogo to the NJC if the judge does not reverse himself immediately.

“We as a party, APC, with an overwhelming majority in the House, will not tolerate intimidation, harassment and threats to our members in any form and in any form. We will not comply with the order because you cannot put something into anything. We will not allow illegality to continue. It’s taken for granted and we won’t allow that to happen.”
