Flamengo are committed to signing attacking midfielder Nicolás De La Cruz, who currently plays for River Plate in Argentina. So much so that Rubro-Negro from Rio has to pay a penalty to the Uruguayan for terminating his employment contract.

However, the president of the Argentine club, Jorge Brito, stated that River Plate has not yet received any offer from Flamengo.

“He is the best player in Argentine football and one of the best in South America, but we have not received offers from Flamengo or anyone else. He has two years left on his contract, we really like him and we will do everything we can to make him stay. We are happy with him, he is happy here,” said the station's director TYC Sportsfrom Argentina.

Flamengo will have to pay $16 million (R$78 million) to pay a penalty for terminating De La Cruz's contract.
