A group of people, described by the Kano State Police Command as “faceless intruders”, attacked the Gwale Local Government Area Secretariat of the State following the reinstatement of LGA Chairman, Khalid Ishaq, on Wednesday.

The development comes after a fire destroyed part of the secretariat building on Wednesday morning.

Ishaq, who was elected chairman of Gwale Local Government Area during the previous All Progressives Congress (APC) administration, has been suspended by the Kano State House of Assembly (KNHA) for three months. His suspension followed a petition written by local government council advisers and submitted to the KNHA accusing him of alleged involvement in illegal land sales.

During the three-month suspension period, he sought legal redress, which the court ruled in his favor and ordered his reinstatement.

The council chairman told journalists in Kano on Wednesday that following his reinstatement by the court, he also sought police protection while he resumed his role at the secretariat.

“We later discovered that some people broke into the place while I was inside. They were trying to cause chaos,” she stated.

It is said that 17 offices and some vehicles worth millions of Naira were torched as the Police promised to fish out the perpetrators.

Meanwhile, the Gwale Local Government Secretariat was taken over by armed security personnel while activities at the site were suspended.
