The inclusion of right-wing politician Nigel Farage and Jamie Lynn Spears on this year’s list I’m a celebrity… Get me out of here! failed to generate blockbuster ratings for last night’s launch episode, although you wouldn’t think so reading GB News producer Ben Leo’s X timeline.
Leo, who is in Australia covering the show with GB News presenter Farage, tweeted this morning that the series opener was watched by 9.1 million people and a peak of 10.3 million. The number is actually 7 million and 7.8 million respectively – I’m a celebrity lowest in several years. Leo appears to have confused last night’s ratings with those for 2022 and has yet to take down his tweet, which began “FARAGE SPARKS BOMBSHELL RATINGS.”
Farage’s inclusion reflected last year’s decision to hire former Health Secretary Matt Hancock and ITV hoped the former UKIP leader, who presents one of GB News’ most-watched programmes, would bring viewers to the return hosted by Ant and Dec.
Another great achievement was Lynn Spears, sister of Britney Spears who also stars in Netflix series Sweet Magnolias. Other contestants on the two-decade-old ITV hit include First dates presenter Fred Sirieix and former Big Brother winner Josie Gibson.
Produced by ITV Studios-backed Lifted Entertainment, the show will air nightly for the next three weeks and remains an end-of-year juggernaut for ITV despite the lower premiere returns. According to Barb data provided by overnights.tv, last night’s ratings were still ITV’s most watched episode since the 2022 launch episode and the most watched by the crucial 16-34 demographic. Facilitated launch of BBC One drama Boat historywhich was watched by 2 million.
