CAF joined a host of others across the world in celebrating Nigerian trio Victor Osimhen, Asisat Oshoala and Chiamaka Nnadozie after they were recognized as Africa's best players and goalkeepers on Monday night, at the same time in which he celebrated the Super Falcons team that emerged as the best Women's team. mainland team.

Osimhen was named African Footballer of the Year after beating Moroccan Achraf Hakimi and Egyptian Mohamed Salah to the award at a ceremony in Marrakech on Monday, with compatriot Oshoala winning the top prize in the women's category.

Nnadozie beat fellow goalkeepers Moroccan goalkeeper Khadija El-Rmichi and South African Andile Olaminii to be named the 2023 CAF Women's Goalkeeper of the Year.

The achievement means Osimhen has become the first Nigeria to win the best men's player award for the first time since 1999, after Kanu Nwankwo won the honour. But for Oshoala, it was a record sixth award and the first for Nnadozie.
