The Law According to Lidia Poet boasts a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, so it's no surprise that TV fanatics are raving about it after discovering the series actually released in February 2023.
After watching the first part of the Italian show, viewers are eagerly awaiting a second series.
The six-parter is based on a true story.
It chronicles Italy's first qualified lawyer, who is banned from practicing because of her sex.
Set in the 19th century and fighting misogyny, it investigates homicides.
Lidia Poet is played by Matilda De Angelis, a 28-year-old Italian actress and singer whose credits also include the films Italian Race and Rose Island.
She also starred in the hit hit TV series The Undoing alongside Hugh Grant and Nicole Kidman.
Her performance as Lidia Poeta was praised, as social media users encouraged each other to embark on the series.
X user Tom_MBS described the show as a 'little gem', while AmandaPCraig said she was 'clutched'.
Others described the show as 'clever' and 'aggressive', while TV writer Lacy Baugher Milas called it his 'favorite TV find of recent months'.
“As heroines go, Lidia is absolutely charming: smart, confident, funny and charmingly modern, she is a woman who knows what she wants and is not willing to settle for anything less,” she wrote in a review for Magazine necklace.
“The absolutely convincing Lidia – and De Angelis’ remarkable performance – make the show so fun to watch, that it’s impossible not to want to watch the familiar beats of this story in another language,” she added.
Elsewhere on the internet, Reddit users ate it up.
Mergraote recommended it to a fellow poster, saying: 'The Law According to the Poet Lidia is excellent', while Kanjilal_s said he 'loved the show'.
Reviews on its Rotten Tomatoes page include: 'Fresh, realistic and fun. Great performances.
'One of the most fun series based on a true story I've ever seen,' says another.
The types of murders Lidia solves in the series include that of a ballerina, who turns up dead before her would-be stalker is accused of killing her.
She also investigates the death of a wealthy businessman who dies mysteriously after a séance at a wild party.
The series received the maximum score on Rotten Tomatoes' average tomatometer and an 89% average audience score.
