MANILA, Philippines – Classes in Marikina's public elementary and secondary schools will shift to asynchronous mode on Thursday to make way for a “Teacher Appreciation Day,” the city's Public Information Office (PIO) said.

According to the PIO on Wednesday, the day of appreciation will be held this December 14 to extend the city's gratitude to teachers as well as non-teaching staff in schools.

“Thank you to our teaching and non-teaching staff for the past year, for your continued efforts and collective successes,” Mayor Marcy Teodoro said in a statement.

Teodoro said he coordinated with the Department of Education-Marikina on the matter.

In accordance with the series of Division Memorandum No. 231 of 2023, a division-level appreciation day activity will be held at the Marikina Sports Center.

Schools were also required to hold a school-wide appreciation day as part of their end-of-year activities.

The city mayor also said that private schools in Marikina can also hold an appreciation day at the discretion of the school administration.
