Manila Water is FIDIC Customer of the Year. The award, the second given to Manila Water after winning the first in 2021, recognizes the company's successful use of FIDIC contracts in various projects that improve services and operational efficiency. On the other hand, the company's entry into the FIDIC Project of the Year – the Calawis 80 million liters per day water treatment plant project – also received a Highly Commended citation.

MANILA, Philippines — The International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC) named Manila Water as Client of the Year during the FIDIC Annual Contract Users Conference and Awards held on November 29, 2023, at the Royal Hotel in London, England.

The award was given to Manila Water in recognition of the successful utilization of FIDIC contracts in various projects resulting in improved services and operational efficiency.

This is Manila Water's second Customer of the Year award, after being first recognized by FIDIC in 2021.

“The judges were impressed by the fact that Manila Water has been a major promoter of FIDIC Contracts in various projects for a long time to deliver a series of schemes that have improved the lives of thousands of people. FIDIC contracts helped the company provide a comprehensive set of conditions that outline the responsibilities, rights and obligations of each party, as well as mechanisms to deal with issues such as variations in work, delays, payments and even disputes,” Rene Santos, Manila Chief of Commercial Management and Water Contracts, he said.

Manila Water's other project, the 80 million liters per day Calawis water treatment plant project, was also cited as “Highly Commended” for the Project of the Year Award. This project, according to FIDIC, implemented a structure that fairly balances the rights and obligations of all parties involved in a construction project, including the employer or client, the contractor, and the engineer or consultant.

“Effective collaboration with various project stakeholders, from local government units, national government agencies, communities, contractors and consultants, has resulted in excellent service to our clients and has therefore become a crucial factor in contributing to nation building. These recognitions from FIDIC absolutely inspire the men and women of Manila Water to further deliver our capital expenditure programs efficiently from the start,” said Bernadette del Rosario, Head of Stakeholder Engagement at the Manila Water Project.

FIDIC is the representative body of national associations of consulting engineers. It represents more than one million engineering professionals and 40,000 companies in around 100 countries. The FIDIC Contract User Awards showcase excellence and best practice benchmarks in the use of FIDIC contract forms for project delivery and international collaborations by organizations.
