Liam Gallagher is being, well, very Liam Gallagher when it comes to Oasis' nomination for the Rock Hall Class of 2024. In other words, he's brought down the institution with his usual dry humor and candor via social media.
“Fuck the Rock n Roll hall of fame, it’s full of BUMBACLARTS,” he posted in X, formerly known as Twitter, after the nominees were announced on Saturday. In a series of posts among fans who responded to his joke, he chided the public, saying, “there is something very fishy about these awards.” It is “You know I don’t need a handjob award from some geriatric guy in a cowboy hat.”
He also discouraged a poster from promoting fan votes, responding with: “Don't waste your time kid, as much as it's appreciated, it's all bullshit.” When one person suggested that Oasis deserved recognition, he deflected and said, “She didn’t kill it as much as Mariah.”
If they win, he told fans they shouldn't expect him to attend as he has other plans. Naturally, he also took the opportunity to attack his brother and Oasis bandmate Noel Gallagher. “The little guy loves hanging out with celebrities, so he probably would, because for me I'm washing my hair, getting a pedicure and a manicure,” he joked. Noel has not yet given his opinion on the nomination. Although Liam has stated that he would like Oasis to reunite, Noel disputed this framing in an interview with Rolling Stone last June.
“I’ve accepted now that this will never end,” Noel said. “I said if Liam really wants to do this he should call me, and he hasn't called me, so I'm just assuming he doesn't want to either. Well, I know he doesn't want that either, but he likes to paint this picture, you know, of this damn little guy who's sitting with his packed suitcase by the door, you know, like fucking Shrek's fucking kitten, you You know, the damn Spanish kitten with those big watery eyes. 'I (will) do this now for you fans. I love you.' It's like, well, call me then. And he didn't call me. And until he does that, he’s not going anywhere.”
Amid Liam's continued humorous responses to Rock Hall news, he actually agreed with one person who said Oasis deserves to be nominated, responding, “Of course,” despite not thinking much about the honor.
