John Oliver took a jab at Apple TV+ during the latest episode of his HBO show Last week tonight.
During a segment about the way Dollar Tree and Dollar General stores are run, Oliver mentioned that TikTok videos of retail employees complaining about working conditions weren’t something you could easily ignore.
“An armed robbery is a traumatic event that people need time to recover from,” Oliver said before delivering the punchline: “It’s not something you can just ignore, like a spam call, a broken light bulb or any Apple TV show.”
Oliver then asked viewers if they had ever heard of the Octavia Spencer series Truth be told which she starred in for three seasons.
“Of course you didn’t do that. It’s Apple TV, where celebrities hide,” joked Oliver.
Earlier this year, Spencer announced that Truth be told would end after three seasons by thanking the producers and his castmates “for their creative vision during this incredible journey.”
Truth be told was a legal crime drama created by Nichelle Tramble Spellman based on the novel by Kathleen Barber You are sleeping. In the series, Spencer plays Poppy Parnell, a podcaster who revisits the case that made her famous in hopes of uncovering the truth.
Spencer has shared acting credits with Aaron Paul, Lizzy Caplan, Elizabeth Perkins, Michael Beach, Mekhi Phifer, Merle Dandridge, Tracie Thoms, Haneefah Wood, Ron Cephas Jones, and Rico E. Anderson, just to name a few.
Apple TV+ is Apple’s subscription streaming service launched in 2019 with star-studded shows like The morning show starring Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon, To see starring Jason Momoa, Servant starring Lauren Ambrose, Defending Jacob starring Chris Evans and Michelle Dockery, among many others.
