A world-famous TV show is about to look a lot different as one of its biggest stars is leaving after seven seasons.

Musician Katy Perry joined American Idol in 2018 and has been a fixture on the show ever since.

Her TV career has been a rollercoaster, as she has faced criticism online for being 'rude' to contestants, while others have defended her approach as a judge.

Now the Part Of Me star, who shares a daughter with fiancé Orlando Bloom, has indicated she is ready to leave the series behind.

She spoke to Jimmy Kimmel on his Monday night talk show, saying that American Idol “connected me to the heart of America, but I feel like I need to go out and feel that pulse at my own pace.”

When confirming she was leaving the show, she didn't completely close the door, saying she might return 'one day… if they catch me'.

Katy's decision comes after she finished a two-year musical residency in Las Vegas, where she performed some of her mega hits to different audiences every night, playing 80 shows in total.

Her daughter, Daisy Bloom, is now three years old, and fans have been speculating that the I Kissed A Girl singer may be preparing to get back on the road with new music.

She last released an LP, Smile, in 2020, with her most recent single being 2021'a Cry About It Later.

She hasn't been on tour since 2018's Witness Tour — but in December a source reported that she was gearing up for a massive comeback.

The source said: “Katy has been working on her most personal album for much of the last two years.

“She's been doing it on her own terms and it's quite different to anything she's released before.”

They added to The Sun: 'The demand is there because she has so many hits, so taking her show on the road will certainly be a big draw.'

The hope is that she will be able to leave at the end of 2024, but it is still being worked out.”

Last year's season of American Idol saw negative reactions for Katy on several occasions, including when she told Nutsa Buzaladze that she should “have more grace” after the drama with a fellow hopeful singing.

She was later booed for telling the contestant to tone down his next performance, and the audience was unimpressed by her criticism.
