As the Christmas season ushers in cinematic clashes, the clash between the 'Bury' It is Prabhas' 'Lettuce' is about to be the final showdown in box office. Commercial analyst Girish Wankhede, in an exclusive conversation, shared insights on the anticipated battle between these two mega-releases.
Wankhede emphasized on 'Salaar's' bold move by opting for a face-off with 'Dunki' considering their high-profile competition from SRK and Raj Kumar HiraniDespite having the opportunity to release during Pongal in January, the makers of 'Salaar' chose the battleground of Christmas, a move that Wankhede described as “very brave”.
“'Salaar: Part 1 Ceasefire' will be a big release because it comes from the production company that gave the astonishing 'KGF' franchise and speaks volumes about its production value and ambition. Written and directed by Prashant Neel and backed by Hombale Films, who believe in astrology to the point of releasing it and pitting it against 'Dunki' instead of taking place in the second week of January during Pongal.

'We don't want things to be ugly,' says 'Salaar' producer Vijay Kirgandur as he talks about box office clash with Shah Rukh Khan's 'Dunki'

“I see this as a very brave act given its impressive screen-sharing clash with the mighty 'Dunki', which is riding high with the super successful duo of Shah Rukh Khan and Rajkumar Hirani. 'Dunki' will gain more favor with exhibitors, while 'Salaar' will score due to its precedence and the newfound love for South Indian action films,” said Girish.
Furthermore, when analyzing the trailer for the two films, he mentioned the highlights that speak volumes about the impact the film will have on the audience and the market.
“Looking at the trailers and the excitement now, I think 'Dunki' will have better screen space and better collections because this year apparently belongs to Shah Rukh Khan and he can score a hattrick as he is still in great shape and form. ”.
“Salaar's trailer still carries a 'KGF' hangover and with Prabhas and Prithviraj Sukumaran, it doesn't give that extra edge, regardless of how great it looks. 'Dunki' is a sure winner in terms of first day collection and will not be less than 40 million”, he mentioned.
In conclusion, Wankhede envisioned 'Dunki' as a global phenomenon, citing its charm, widespread appeal and the compelling narrative it brings. At the same time he recognizes 'Salaar' as a high-budget action film that relies on star power. He said, “'Dunki' exudes charm and has more acceptability both in India and across the world and will be a global phenomenon because of the issue it raised in its narrative. 'Salaar' is yet another typical action film put together on a heavy budget and will work solely on the basis of star value and action sequences. 'Dunki' will certainly manage to be in the league of 'Jawaan' and 'Pathan' and if not bigger than both, it will certainly achieve a considerable number at the global box office. Then it will grow with great word of mouth and positive reviews.”

Meanwhile, King Khan is set to mesmerize Dubai at the renowned Global Village, marking the culmination of Dunki's promotional campaign. Shah Rukh Khan will be on the main stage on Sunday, December 17 at 9 pm. This event will be held a week before the highly anticipated theatrical release of 'Dunki' on December 21, 2023.
