The new president of the BBC has not yet set foot on the company's premises, but he has already been involved in his first scandal.

Samir Shah, a former UK media executive, has given an unequivocal verdict on the latest social media posts from Gary Lineker, the BBC's highest-paid presenter.

Shah said Lineker's Twitter (now X) posts this week mocking conservative politicians appeared to break new social media rules implemented in September.

“I imagine the BBC is now looking at this and considering its response,” Shah told Parliament’s Culture, Media and Sport Committee.
