About five persons were reportedly killed by suspected bandits in a fresh attack in Apa Local Government Area of Benue State.

Some communities such as Edikpo, Opaha, Odugbo, Akpete, Ikobi, Akpata, Idiaha, Ochumekwu and Adija in Apa LGA have witnessed murders committed by suspected bandits in recent weeks.

The latest attack on the village of Adija on Sunday claimed five lives, according to a resident, who gave his name as Adaji.

Adaji said the bandits invaded the community and shot people indiscriminately, adding that most of the victims were youths.

When contacted, the leader of the county's cultural group, Apa Development Association, Eche Akpoko, said five youths were missing, adding that three bodies had been recovered.

He said: “I can describe it as a routine attack, it is true that the armed herdsmen attacked the community on Sunday and five youths were missing and as we speak, they managed to recover three bodies and two are yet to be found.

“We don’t know if these were really killed or if they are simply missing.

“For the people of LG, the truth is that they are defenseless and perplexed by all this, especially because they are not seeing the government's action in a visible way.

“People (attackers) are out there; They are in the bush, in the surrounding forest and attack whenever they want. Is very sad.”

Also, the local government chairman, Ochayi Alidu, who confirmed the attack, said: “At first, two bodies were found. And the other three missing people were found on Monday, bringing the total to five.”

Police Public Relations Officer, Catherine Anene, when contacted, said she was yet to receive the report.
