Five people were confirmed dead while 12 others suffered injuries in an accident on Tuesday along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The accident occurred at 1:07 pm, a few meters after Quadrangular, on the highway.

It involved a Mazda bus with registration number LAGOS SMK 685 YG and a truck marked ZE 121 OG.

The Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Ogun, Florence Okpe, confirmed the incident to journalists in Abeokuta on Tuesday.

According to Okpe, the accident was caused by the driver of the Mazda bus who lost control of the wheels while he was sleeping.

She said: “A total of 18 people, 10 men and eight women, were involved in the accident.

| Twelve people were injured and, unfortunately, five people were also reported dead in the accident.

“The suspected cause of the fatal accident was fatigue, which led to loss of control as the driver fell asleep on the wheels and crashed into a moving truck.”

The FRSC spokesperson added that the injured victims were taken to Victory Hospital in Ogere while the bodies were deposited at the FOS Morgue in Ipara.
