Was a Once, Dave Grohl hit snooze instead of joining the boygenius in the studio. Phoebe Bridgers (and her bandmates) recently I talked with NME and revealed that the Foo Fighters frontman and the trio had a “missed connection” when they were making The record.
“There was a missed connection where Dave would go into the studio and play (the record),” Bridgers told the channel. “So he slept through it or something, and we ended up not meeting.”
In the interview, Bridgers reflected on her and bandmates Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus singing “Satanist” alongside Grohl during their Hollywood Bowl show on Halloween.
“It was actually a perfect, complete moment to have him play that song, because we knew we wanted the drums to be crazy on that song,” she said. During the show, Grohl got into the Halloween spirit by wearing skull makeup. The “boys” had coordinated Father, Son and Holy Spirit costumes.
During the interview, Bridgers also shared that she and Grohl met backstage at a Billie Eilish concert, calling him “the coolest guy ever.”
“I was texting the boys, saying, 'I met Dave Grohl and he exceeded every expectation of what a rock star could be in the world,'” Bridgers said. “I think we as a group look for that a lot — like, who is living life the way we want to age and live our lives?”
“He is so playful. I just want to keep playing the way he is,” Dacus added.
Boygenius received critical acclaim for his LP The recordreaching second place in Rolling Stonefrom the Top 100 Albums of 2023 list. “Whether set in folk, grunge, or Simon and Garfunkel settings, each song maintains an intimacy that makes you feel included — and that's the point, after all,” read one review of the album.
