Fire Response Entry Sought

The Regional District of Columbia Shuswap is seeking public feedback on its response to last summer's wildfires.

The CSRD is conducting an after-action review following the destructive Bush Creek East wildfire that devastated North Shuswap.

The district says plans are in development to solicit public input so emergency response methods can be learned and improved.

They plan to give the public the opportunity to express opinions and make suggestions about the district's emergency response.

In a video update on bushfire recovery, Derek Sutherland, acting general manager of community and protection services, says: “We will be contacting people in a variety of ways to vote in person and online. This way we can reach as many North Shuswap residents as possible. We will also look to engage with residents in the Sorrento area, as it is clear that they have also been affected by the fire.”

The review will include workshops, surveys and individual interviews.

The CSRD is still awaiting provincial funding approval for the project, but intends to move forward with the plan in the new year.
