After some confusion, it looks like the Cowboys have chosen a new defensive coordinator.
According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, Dallas has agreed to terms with Mike Zimmer to take over the defensive coordinator job.
We initially informed about it last Thursday Zimmer was the Cowboys' pick he replaced Dan Quinn, who left to become the head coach of the Washington Commanders. It was questioned by Rex Ryananother candidate for the position, and subsequent reports indicated that Zimmer was not yet the final choice, although he remained the clear favorite.
Still, the Cowboys ended up where most expected. Zimmer, 67, was the head coach of the Minnesota Vikings from 2014-21. He spent more than a decade as the Cowboys' defensive coach early in his career, so this is something of a homecoming for him.
Ryan seemed to have a real chance at the job, but for now he would probably continue working in television unless something more enticing came along.
