Midfielder Nenê Bonilha, 31, will strengthen Portuguesa-RJ in the Campeonato Carioca, which starts in January. The midfielder, who was Brazilian champion with Corinthians in 2011, was at Paysandu, where he gained access to Serie B in 2023. He now joins Lusa and has his first chance to play football in Rio de Janeiro.

“I was very happy when I received the invitation from Portuguesa. The project made me want to do it right because it's a team that's growing a lot. It has a good structure, a nice stadium and the management did a good job. All this weighed on me at that moment. I'm very motivated and I hope I can do it on the pitch,” says Nenê Bonilha.

The player started at Paulista de Jundiaí, joined Corinthians and later played for several clubs such as Avaí, Fortaleza and Cuiabá. In the last two, he gained access to Serie A with Leão, including the title in 2018. In 2024, he will face the challenge of playing not only in Carioca, but also in the Copa do Brasil and Série D with Lusa:

“We have already started preparatory work for next season. It was intense work that will certainly prepare us well for the start in Carioca. We know what difficulties we will have to face, what great teams we will have to face. But we know we have the conditions and quality. We will come well prepared and will defend Portuguesa's jersey with great zeal.”
