BP CEO Bernard Looney has resigned from the oil and gas giant effective immediately, the company confirmed in a statement Tuesday.

Looney’s abrupt resignation comes after the executive said he was “not fully transparent in his previous disclosures” about personal relationships with colleagues. The company’s chief financial officer, Murray Auchincloss, will act as interim CEO, the company said.
