EXCLUSIVE: Getting a head start here in our preview of the Thanksgiving segment, produced by Ridley Scott’s Apple Studios Napoleon will invade the global box office via Sony this Wednesday, in what appears to be a US$46 million WW global home.

Divided for the stretch from Wednesday to Sunday, that is US$22 million 5 days domestic and US$24 million on another continent.

Note that it’s not the only big release during the holiday: there’s Disney’s animated film To wish, which we’ll tell you more about early next week and has the second weekend of everything that’s bowing today: The Hunger Games: Ballad of Birds and Snakes, Trolls Band Together, Thanksgiving It is Next goal wins.

Napoleonstarring Oscar winner Joaquin Phoenix, is in a 45-day viewing window, we hear, before arriving on Apple TV+.

We are told that the comparison here, both domestically and in the United States, is Scott’s House of Gucci which was released during the 5-day Thanksgiving holiday around the world when Covid was still the priority for viewers. That Lady Gaga-Adam Driver-Al Pacino-Jared Leto film in non-inflation-adjusted grosses overseas grossed $12.8 million and another $22 million in the US/Canada for a global start of $34.1 million . Large territories for House of Gucci were Scott’s homeland of the United Kingdom ($3.4 million opening), France ($1.9 million), followed by Mexico with nearly $1 million.

Napoleon will invade 85% of offshore territories, with the main territories of Belgium, France and the United Kingdom on November 22; Australia, Brazil, Germany, Italy, Mexico and the Netherlands on November 23; and Spain on November 24th. China opens on December 1st along with Japan. South Korea will leave on December 6th.

In the United States, previews begin Tuesday at 3pm on 2,700 sites for the film that also stars Vanessa Kirby as Napoleon’s wife, Josephine. Pic will expand to 3,300 by Wednesday and will be shown in Imax, PLFs and select 70MM locations. Napoleon it is currently trending with older men over 35, followed by men aged 17-34 and women over 35. Napoleon stay at 67% fresh.

Flower Moon Assassinswhich represented streamer Apple’s foray into major theatrical releases with Paramount, had a $44 million global debut and a $23.2 million three-day domestic debut in October, at the height of the actors’ strike. RT’s critics score reached 93% fresh certification. The current running total in the United States in Flower Moon Assassins costs US$61.6 million and US$138.8 million worldwide.

A big difference to note in the revenues between the two Apple films is that Flower Moon Assassins is 3 and a half hours long, which reduces the number of viewing times, while Napoleon It’s 2 hours and 38 minutes. It won’t be a shock if the latter raises more.
