LIGAO CITY, Albay, Philippines – The newest campus of Bicol University (BU) will soon be erected in this city in Albay province following its groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday, December 12.

Baby Boy Benjamin Nebres, BU president, and Mayor Fernando Gonzalez, Ako Bicol partial-list Rep. Anelyn Sumanga and officials from the Department of Public Works and Highways attended the campus groundbreaking ceremony.

The P250-million project, which will be completed by 2024, is situated in Barangay Tuburan and will serve students coming from different provinces of Bicol.

“The Bicol University Ligao, which is approved by the board of regents, will not only offer veterinary medicine but more industry-based courses within the university’s vision for humanity and we would like to thank the Endowments Committee Chairman and Ako Bicol Rep. Elizaldy Co, Albay 3rd district Rep. Fernando Cabredo and other partners to carry out the project,” said Nebres.

Gonzalez said the creation of BU in Ligao is a step forward for the city as well as the district.

“We don’t have a veterinary school here. I think the closest one is in Naga [City in Camarines Sur] therefore, it will provide enormous opportunities for Albayanos and the rest of the nearby provinces,” he said.

BU's main campus is in Legazpi City.
