Dozens of donkeys have a safe home for Christmas this year after being rescued from poor conditions on a farm in Wales.

The equines have now been given a refuge, the Donkey Sanctuary, in Sidmouth, Devon, after being placed in their care.

The animal rescue took place during the Covid pandemic in February 2021.

The operation was the largest the sanctuary has ever helped, taking in 72 donkeys at one time – including 20 pregnant mares.

Years of litigation culminated in the transfer of legal ownership of The Donkey Sanctuary this week.
