MANILA, Philippines – A 5.6 magnitude earthquake struck Calbiga, Samar on Monday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

The earthquake occurred at 12:57 pm and was of tectonic origin.

It has a depth of focus of 77 kilometers, with the epicenter drawn east of Calbiga.

Instrumental intensity five was recorded in Catbalogan, Samar, while reported intensity four was detected in Palo, Leyte.

According to Phivolcs, instrumental intensity is measured by an intensity meter or scale, while reported intensity is the strength of an earthquake felt and reported by people.
