MUMBAI: Tata Power announced on Wednesday that consumers in its city saved 4.45 million units of energy by adopting an energy-efficient lifestyle in 2023, thus resulting in savings of 24% in electricity accounts.
The announcement came in the wake of energy companies in Mumbai celebrating Energy Conservation Week from December 14 to 21, 2023 to promote awareness and encourage energy efficiency practices.
“More than 30,000 consumers in the island city and suburbs use green energy, with annualized sales of more than 300 million units,” said a senior official. This is beyond 60% Tata Energy consumers opted for electronic bills, which saved 48 lakh sheets of paper. “More than 88% of consumers pay online, thus reducing their carbon footprint,” he added.
National Energy Conservation Day is celebrated every year on December 14, with the aim of spreading the message about the importance of energy conservation and showcasing the nation's achievements in energy efficiency and conservation. Adani Electricity will also observe the week with over 31 lakh consumers adopting energy saving measures.
Adani Energy Solutions Ltd., which owns and operates Adani Electricity Mumbai Ltd, announced that it is on track to source 60% of its total power purchase from renewable energy by 2027, from the current 38%. These sources will be primarily solar and wind and will help reduce the company's greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 40% by 2024-25 relative to the 2018-19 baseline.
Tata Power also released the film 'DuniyaApneHawale' promoting the message “Embrace Mother Earth. Love Our Planet. Switch to Green and Clean Energy”, which is an extension of its 'Sustainable is Attainable' campaign, an official said.
The company has successfully delivered more than 5,000 energy-efficient appliances to consumers.
