MANILA, Philippines — A 4.4 magnitude earthquake shook Surigao del Sur on Tuesday afternoon, the state seismology office said.
According to Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs)the epicenter of the tectonic earthquake, which occurred at 5 p.m., was located east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.
It had a depth of focus of three kilometers.
The earthquake was felt with intensity III in Hinatuan and intensity II in Bislig, Surigao del Sur, Phivolcs added.
The agency also said the earthquake was an aftershock of the 7.4 magnitude earthquake of December 2, 2023 in Surigao del Sur.
No damage or aftershocks are expected, Phivolcs said.
