The Back to the Future movies spawned one of the most iconic movie scientists: Dr. Emmett Brown (Christopher Lloyd), the eccentric pal of protagonist Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox), who miraculously converts a DeLorean car into a time machine. However, there are hints throughout Robert Zemeckis’s trilogy that Doc Brown is not quite the hero he seems. In fact, in many ways it’s the lovable eccentric scientist, as the cause of many of the catastrophes he and Marty have to fix, who is the real villain of the piece, as each adventure in Doc’s DeLorean alters timelines, changing the trajectories of others’ lives.
