Internet is very popular in Cambodia now. Most of people get addicted to surfing the internet nowadays even me. I spend up to more than 8 hours sitting in front of computer daily. With speed 128kpbs provided by MetFone, vietel compay, for the unlimited promotion I can surf anytime I want.
Metfone is still in my first choice currently compare to the other ISP in Cambodia because it is cheap and affordable. Even though the speed is not really good, but it is acceptable compare to other ISP companies that provide the same service.
I have collected some Internet Service Providers (ISP) in Cambodia. I found there are so many ISP in our Country now.

WOW. 128kps that is almost like dial up speeds. feels like 1995 windows 95 or dos. i know in asia internet sucks compared to u.s. and europe. but come on what a joke. even philippines and indonesia have 3 mbps =3000kbps unlimited download for example from globe dsl in philippines for 45 dollars a month. in romaina 3rd world country getting like 30mbps for like 50 dollars a month. it cost 25 dollars unlimtited 1000kbps 1mbps download in indonesia and philippines pldt and globe and sky. internet is just pathetic in cambodia. how can you run any internet business there. charging you .08cents per mb they are charging you for 1 mbps download speed in cambodia like 2000 dollars but only 10gigs than .01 cent per mb. you would could end up paying tens of thousands of dollars for some of there packages if not more. i feel like in the twilight zone.
maybe you are working for cambodia isp so you wont approve my comments. hahaha.
Thank you for sharing your idea with me. I am not working for other Internet Service Provider (ISP) in Cambodia. What I am doing here is I just want to share about ISP available in Cambodia only to all people who want to know. I agree with you that internet in Cambodia is very slow with the speed starts from 64kbs to 7mbps. For home user people here using about 128kbs and they pay about $25 a month with ADSL. I do not understand why the internet connectivity in Cambodia is very slow compare to another countries like in Vietnam or Thailand. Also nowadays, the price of using internet in Cambodia is very expensive. I do not know when I can use the internet with speed 10mbs with unlimited. I hope one day Cambodia will have faster speed with cheap price available in Cambodia.
For me I am now using internet with portable modem with the speed of 7mbs (7,000kbs) but the data is limited.
Sideth,
I will be in Cambodia for a month and need full access. I am currently used to 52 MBS. How will i be able to connect for a month?
Dear Larry,
Thank you for letting me know your condition.
Wow! 52MBS is unbelievable for me. How fast could it be? Would you mind letting me know which country are you in?
As your internet in your country is super fast, I am afraid to recommend you about the internet speed in Cambodia. Base on my experience, I am using Metfone ISP with portable 3G Modem. The speed of this modem is up to 7MBS. The cost of this modem is USD40 and the data allowed is limited depends on the plan you buy. You can pay USD20 to buy 12GB of data valid for 30days.
Since you plan to stay in Cambodia only a month, this 3G modem is the best choice for you I would recommend. It is easy to use. You just buy the Modem and buy data and then you can plug in your laptop; that’s all. You can access to internet immediately. You can read more about Modem USB 3G of Metfone.
Please let me know if I can be of further assistance or if you need more explanation.
3G modem itself, hardware, supports up to 7.2 mbps. This doesn’t mean that Metfone provided its broadband service at this data rate. As far as i know, current 3G portable modem from Metfone is running at the rate around 360kps only (practical). I’ve no idea about Mobiltel which is considered as the fastest one (after the more investment by Mobitel), with highest price too.
Dear Seagull,
Thank you for letting us know your concerns with clear explanation. Regarding the speed of Metfone 3G based on my experience, the hardware itself support up to 7.2mbps and you are right for the hardware speed. But Metfone do provide the speed up to 7mbps. When I download pages or surfing the heavy graphic page, I notice the speed graphic rise up to 6mbps. I also us the program called DU Meter to measure my internet speed and I can see the download is up very high sometime almost 7mbps. If I download program I can see the speed is about 900k per second which is very high. Also, please note that the speed of Metfone 3G is based on the signal strength on where you are. If you are in the area where signal strength is high, you will get better speed.
Talking about Mobitel, I am not sure about the speed, but as I know Mobitel is using 3.5G system (NOT 3G) so the speed maybe better.
You can try by yourself and if you found something difference or new please let me know.
Dear sir,
I have read your sharing. And think you are the one very familiar with internet. Could you pleae help me to find the truth information and list list from th highest to the lowest of all internet provider companies in Cambodia base on the real popularity of the consumers and put in percentages(%).
example:
Ezecom 50%
Ankor net40%
and so on.
I hope you will be kind enough to fullfill my help.
Thanks and Best Regards,
Bopha
Dear Bopha,
Sorry for a very late reply. I was out of town and just come back. Thank you for visiting my blog. And thank you again that you found this article useful for you.
Regarding your question of the percentage of user in each company, I am sorry to let you know that I do not know the statistic of users in each company. And I have no idea how to find too. I think you may find the answer if you can contact to the Ministry of Information since these datas are managed by this Ministry.
I am sorry that I cannot help you, but if I have any chances to find out the answer, I will post it as soon as I can. And I will alert to you.
Regards,
Sideth
I am waiting for you!. Thanks your corporation!
Dear all,Maybe you confused “3G” or “3,5G” as advertised by Mobitel, Mfone or Hello. Infact, If you search on google, you can understand clearly what is 3G and what is 3.5G. You can see it at:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-Speed_Downlink_Packet_Access
As it showed, you can see on the screen of Metfone Modem 3G. and in most areas, it has the letter “HSDPA”. Please do not see in what the ISPs advertise but in what they provide. (speed, coverage, stability,…)
For the market share of ISPs, you check with Ministry of Post and Telecommunication and I’m sure that the No.1 is Metfone because it is the only ISP has the fiber optic of 16,000 km cover to all districts.
Thanks,
Dear Ken,
Thank you for dropping your comments in my blog regarding this article. You are right, we got confused with their marketing advertisement. I do not know well about 3.5G of Cellcard as it shown in the TV, but I know little about Metfone 3G. Like what you said, most of the time you see the word “HSPA” at the menu of the program of its software driver, it show the stability and the signal strength. You will see this “HSPA” when the signal strength marks as “Good”, and when the signal strength is high you will see “WCDMA”, but if you signal strength is “Poor” you may see “GPRS” instead. The GPRS means the 3G service is not available with that signal strength.
For the best ISP users at this time, I think it would be Metfone as well, but I do not have real statistic.
Anyone has any ideas, please share here.
Regards,
Sideth
Hi!
I’m from Indonesia and I’m just want to know bout ISP in Cambodia
I think the internet prices in Cambodia is expensive. Because I’m using 384 kbps internet connection and my ISP just cost me Rp. 199.000 ($19,99) per month with 2 GB data quota.
And I see that ADSL modem in your country is very expensive. TP-Link modem in my country : $15 ( 4 LAN ports : $20 ), D-Link : $20, and Linksys Cisco just $ 50 instead $ 88 in your country. And my ISP has promo that if you register a new 384 kbps data packet, they just cost you $ 9.9 for first 4 month and a free TP-Link modem for you.
I hope internet in your country will cheaper soon!
about ilink ? ilink is ISP in cambodia
It is good to see that Cambodia now has more ISP company. Hope the price of Internet is lower in the future and better speed
@Samuel: Truly the internet service in Cambodia is still expensive and the speed is very low. I hope that soon the price of internet is lower with the better speed.
Thank you for sharing your information with us.
