Where your donation goes
Every donation made to the Express Helpline Trust is spent on the relief and rehabilitation of flood survivors across the country. Donations have already helped provide emergency assistance to thousands of families in the flood zones. Through your generosity the trust has helped provide basic necessities like clean drinking water, ready-to-eat meals, clothes and hygiene products to camps in Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Southern Punjab.
The EHLT realizes that recovering from this disaster will take time. The board of trustees firmly believes in sustainable rehabilitation. This is why they have created an initial three-fold plan for relief and rehabilitation for the flood zones. All funds generated from within Pakistan and overseas have been channeled through this plan in order to help communities rebuild themselves. The trust will provide emergency assistance in UN approved priority areas, create safe cities and then offer resources to help revive the economic and educational infrastructures in the areas. All three phases will continue simultaneously in various areas of the country as and when required.

Phase One : Emergency Assistance
The first phase began on August 14,2010 when nine trucks of food, milk, bottled water, juice-boxes and medicines were delivered to Dera Ghazi Khan and Taunsa Sharif. Since then the trust has continued to collect and distribute aid throughout the flood zone. Seven collection points have been established in McDonalds restaurants in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Sialkot, Hyderabad and Faisalabad for donations in kind. All goods are then collected from the points by our partners at the United Nations who transport the aid to priority areas. The Express Helpline Trust team and McDonalds teams accompany the UN in the distribution process to guarantee that the aid that is donated reaches survivors.
The trust has encouraged donors to donate ‘family packs’ which can be easily distributed. A National Disaster Management Authority family pack costs approximately Rs5,000. It includes food items (pulses, wheat, rice, salt) and non-food items (cooking utensils, hygiene products).
The highest priority in the flood zone is the need for clean drinking water. As bottled water will eventually run out the trust will provide over 5,000 survivors in Sindh with access to clean drinking water by distributing Lifestraws, an innovative mobile water filtration system which allows families to purify flood water in to drinking water.

Phase Two : Safe Cities
This September we initiated the second phase of the EHLT rehabilitation plan which involves establishing ‘safe cities’ for flood survivors. Working in cooperation with ShelterBox, the Trust will provide a safety network to over 10,000 flood survivors in Thatta. The trust will sponsor the creation of a secure area where flood survivors are provided shelter, food and medical care. The camps will be staffed with medical volunteers from the Pakistan Red Crescent Society and National Rural Support Programme in order to guarantee that survivors are cared for. The idea is to not provide them with a one-time hand out but the resources they need to rebuild their lives.
If you would like to sponsor one family in a safe city you may make a donation of Rs19,400 to the Express Helpline Trust.

Phase Three : Reconstruction and Rehabilitation
Economy: In order to inject cash into the flailing economy the trust is investing in cash for work programs whereby survivors will be provided monetary incentives to rebuild their villages. The programs will allow flood survivors to reenter the fold of their former lives. Survivors will also be provided resources and tools to restart their lives.
Schools: The trust is also investing in the rebuilding of schools buildings which were damaged by the floods so that children can continue their education.
